Overview

The project was for Kool Kanya, an women’s based online community platform that helps women connect and find guidance in their professional lives. Here, the users interact by posting their thoughts, comments and initiate discussions with the community.

What is a User’s Profile Page?

A User’s Profile Page contains information of the user's education, work, interest/ hobbies, link to other social media platforms such as Facebook/ Instagram, profile picture and a short bio by the user.

A User Profile Page on a community platform is a great way to keep the users engaged. The information on the profile page helps the users to connect with each other.

Why is it necessary to have complete Profile Page details?

The following issues emerged due to the incomplete User’s Profile page.

  • Few users were reluctant to connect with other users who had incomplete profile details assuming they were not active.
  • Few users who would want to create a network faced difficulty in finding users of their common interests due to incomplete profile details of other users.
  • To keep the platform active, interactive and trustworthy it was necessary to encourage and remind the users to have profile details completed.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • This project was completed under the guidance of the UX Design Head.
  • My Responsibilities: User research, User flow, visual design, prototyping & testing.
  • Time Period: Design sprint -1 week.

Design Process

User Research

Remote user research was conducted on 5 users to understand why the users skipped /ignored/ forget to complete Profile page details.

User Research

The following were the statements from the users in the user research:

“ I like to visit the profile page of users if I find their posts or comments interesting, but if their profile page is incomplete then I presume that they are not active on the platform.”

“ I forgot that my profile page is incomplete and I use the platform every day without any issues. I remember that the questions asked on the profile page was a bit difficult and I decided to do them later.”

“ At times I receive messages from users based on my post, but when I check their profile page and if it doesn't have their basic details like their education, designation, location, profile picture etc it makes me confused whether I should reply to their message or not.”

“ Initially, I filled out only the easy ones and leave the rest for later and I eventually forget them.”

“ I find the questions to be bit difficult and i have to visit other user’s profile so that I can get some idea.”

Problem Definition

Based on the inputs from user research, the following was concluded:

  • Lack of reminders: The users do not receive any reminders/ notifications/ messages regarding their incomplete profile page.
  • Lack of motivation: Once the user starts to use the platform, they don’t feel motivated/interested to complete their profile details.
  • Complex question: The users had difficulty in understanding a few questions and they were time-consuming.

Solution Building

  • To create reminders/notifications/pop-up messages encouraging the users to complete their profile page.
  • To simplify the questions asked on the profile page by rephrasing and providing helper texts.
  • To display a percentage progress bar for Profile page completion.

What is Reminder Card

The Reminder card appears in between the 15–20 cards as the user browses through the app. A Reminder card contains one questions that the user haven't answered on the profile page. The information provided by the user on the Reminder card gets reflected on the profile page.

Reminder Card Explorations

The following are the Card design explorations created with images, digital illustrations, typography and progress bars. All of these cards designs were sent out for A/B testing with the users to evaluate them on the following

  • Are they visual inviting
  • Simplicity in design
  • Usability
  • Information clarity

Out of the following explorations, Option 1 was selected based on major votes.
